A 6km walk or a car journey to a viewpoint outside of El Chaltén; where you get a panoramic view of the Fitz Roy Massif and the fantastic canyon of the Vueltas River.
Itinerary
We travel 6km along RP (Provincial Route) 23 in the direction of Lake Viedma. The viewpoint looks down over the canyon, which has been carved out by the river over thousands of years. From here we have a different angle looking towards the town of El Chaltén along the Vueltas River. The canyon itself is interesting because of the wonderful rock strata that make up the canyon walls.
This place is also great for spotting condors, which normally fly in an East-West direction at quite low heights, enabling us to see them a lot more easily!
A great alternative on a bad weather day, as the weather on the steppe is usually more stable or at least less possibility of rain.
Option 1
There is the possibility of continuing on to the Restaurant Bahía Túnel, ideal for afternoon tea or dinner with a breathtaking view of Lake Viedma.
