The day starts with a boat trip on the grand Lake Viedma and then a trek on the largest glacier in Patagonia, Argentina. It is a unique and unforgettable experience to trek across one the most symbolic glaciers in the national park.

Itinerary

At 8am we leave El Chaltén on a transfer to Port Bahía Túnel (15 Km). On arrival you will enjoy a cup of coffee while the guides will give an introductory talk to the day.

You then embark on the boat and the adventure of discovering the world of glaciers begins! We will travel for about an hour towards the Viedma glacier, enjoying views of Mount Huemul and the lake itself. When we reach the glacier we will travel along its 40m high face and be able to see every shade of blue that you ever knew existed!

We disembark on a rocky headland and walk for 20 minutes until we arrive at the edge of the glacier where we will put on our crampons. We will then walk for about 2 hours on the glacier. You will see some huge crevasses, multi-coloured lakes, fissures and ice caves amongst other very interesting glacial formations.

Glacier Viedma is the largest glacier on the eastern slopes of the Andes. Its source being the Southern Continental Ice Field, to the west of the Mariano Moreno range and descends the valley between Mount Huemul of 2677m and Mount Campana of 2570m.

After the trek we return to the boat for lunch and return to Bahía Túnel at about 3.30pm.
