Trekking al Paso del Viento  (Trekking to the Windy Pass)

This is a challenging trek for those of you who are short of time but don’t want to miss the opportunity of arriving at Paso del Viento and being able to look out over the amazing sight of the Southern Ice Field.

Itinerary

DAY 1
Start trekking from El Chaltén towards Laguna Toro, passing by “Pampa de las Carretas and Pliegue Tumbado. Having walked for about 6 hours we will arrive at Laguna Toro campground (650masl) where we will set up camp.

DAY 2
We start off by circling around Laguna Toro, we then cross over Río Túnel by a Tyrolean rope (with harness); in order to be able to continue the climb towards the Paso del Viento, crossing over the Glacier Túnel Inferior. From the pass at 1550masl you will be rewarded with a sight of the Southern Continental Ice Field, the source of Glacier Viedma and the Mariano Moreno range. You will then have time to enjoy the marvellous views and take millions of photos before we will head back to Laguna Toro campground.
We will be hiking for about 7 to 8 hours today and will be climbing some 900m.

DAY 3
We return from Laguna Toro to El Chaltén with the option of climbing Pliegue Tumbado. Average walking time today will be 6-8 hours.

Includes - Mountain guide (AAGM/EPGAMT – APN) and assistant
Technical equipment for glaciers and the Tyrolean rope (crampons, harness, rope, helmet, etc). Group equipment (tents, cooking equipment, etc)

60/70litre backpack, water bottle, warm layer, waterproof jacket and over trousers (Gore-Tex), gloves*, hat, socks and synthetic t-shirts for changing, sunglasses*, sun-tan lotion*, sturdy footwear*, gaiters, head torch, wash bag, sleeping bag**, sleep mat**, etc.
