A couple of intensive days of trekking in order to enjoy awe inspiring views of Mt Fitz Roy and its satellite mountains, from a unique and wild perspective. We propose a different trek that includes traditional paths, on steep hill sides, rocky areas and small snow fields… A mountain programme for those looking for the views but from somewhere that is a bit more of a challenge to get to!.
The day starts with a 30 minute transfer from Chaltén to Río Electrico, along an unpaved road. From here we start walking along the Eléctrico valley, the path is easy, pretty even while it works its way through an enchanting lenga forest. After about 2 hours we arrive at Piedra del Fraile Refuge.
From here we start gaining altitude, until we reach Piedra Negra, and finally –after crossing a glacier- we get to the Paso del Cuadrado.
All of the climbing is made worthwhile for this moment! We get amazing views of the granite massifs, other mountains, valleys, etc. After a short break we head back down the way we came up, to Piedra del Fraile to enjoy a well earned hot meal and a good rest night.
– Overnight: Piedra del Fraile Refuge
– Lunch and dinner included
After breakfast in the refuge we start our trek along the base of the Electrico valley. We walk for a couple of hours in an impressive landscape where the path is rocky and uneven until we arrive at the Pollone glacier and its lagoon.
From here we can also admire the Marconi glacier.
Today we are able to appreciate raw nature at its best; pure rock and ice. After a short break at this hidden lagoon at the base of the mountains we start our trek back to Piedra del Fraile and to the Electrico bridge for our transfer back to El Chaltén
Important: The path to Paso Cuadrado is very exposed and it can become dangerous. Depending on the weather the trek order may be switched round.
